Best Calculus Answer Yet

I met the chicken after spending the best part of 8 hours marking.  It's a good thing I wasn't drinking coffee at the time or I'd still be wiping up the spill.

  1. That reminds me of the answer a friend wrote in high school way back in the day when asked in an exam question 'Who was Bismarck and what was his role in European history?'

His answer? 'Bismarck was a funny man with a big nose.'

I admire the chutzpah of the student who knows they're going to fail but does it with style!

    1. Or the engineering question "how can you measure the height of a building using a barometer?"

      1) Tie a string to the barometer, lower it from the top of the building to the ground and measure the string.
      2) Toss the barometer off the building and measure time how long it takes to hit the ground.
      3) Offer the owner a free barometer if he can tell you the height of his building.

  2. Fantastic! I shall send a copy to my stepson's Maths teacher. And another to my chickens...

  3. Last fall, my youngest sons friend pulled the same sort of stunt except he signed his paper Riley (Danger) Witiw. So his teacher replied and I quote: "You'll be in danger of failing this class if you don't pull up your grades and put some effort into this course." I will show your chicken to my boys as I am sure they'll get a good laugh ... Jeff

  6. I do hope at least some partial credit was given to acknowledge the creative aspect of the response.

I pulled a similar stunt in an economics test when answering the question "show three examples of bond valuations" I do want you that the response does "time-stamp me". Here were my answers:

    - Sean Connery was great
    - Roger Moore was just OK
    - George Lazenby was awful

Surprisingly, I got full credit along with a note never to try that again!

    1. Hey that's pretty good - I'll have to remember that one when I teach financial mathematics. Once I gave an exam in multiple regression where I asked students to check to see if there was a link between sex and heart attacks. You can guess the answers I got.

      Regards
